Housing construction booming in Calgary, city says

Calgary is leading Canada in residential construction, issuing over 18,000 building permits in 2024. The city reported significant increases in various housing types: 5,341 single detached homes (22% rise), 1,842 semi-detached homes (63% increase), 3,343 townhouses (28% increase), and 7,312 apartment units (37% above the five-year average). The city also added 3,787 new secondary suites. Officials emphasize that easing building processes enhances supply, choice, and affordability for residents, supported by various construction industry programs.
